We needed to feed nine people and BBQ was the answer.  My grandparents shot down my first choice because they deemed my suggested place to a "beer joint."  God forbid we get what is probably the best BBQ in town from a place that also sells beer and potentially plays music on the weekends. You never know; instead of picking up BBQ, the temptations might be too great and I might get drunk and start a bar fight, take up with some temptress or steal a car. My second and third choices were deemed (again by the grandparents) to be too far away. And thus we were left with Bigham's.

Bigham's is a Lubbock institution of sorts. It's been a mainstay for almost 40 years and is the only BBQ place I can recall from my childhood. With that kind of staying power, it's obviously not a bad BBQ place. However given some of the other options in town, Bighams would not be one of my top choices. Where they stand in the BBQ hierarchy is evident from the lack of Yelp reviews and was shown again on my recent visit by the fact that there was only five to ten people in the restaurant at dinner time on a Monday night.

I ordered the family pack #1 which consisted of 2 lbs. of chopped (brisket), sauce, one quart of BBQ beans, one quart of potato salad and six buns for $35.95. This is a pretty good value really and especially when you break it down to a per person cost. In addition to the family pack, I purchased an additional 2 lbs. of sliced brisket at $14.95 per lb. for a grand total of $71.28. This meal fed seven adults, two kids and provided an abundance of next day leftovers.  The sliced brisket was great. As requested, it was sliced lean and included a fair amount of flavorful bark. From the smoke ring it was evident that this brisket was done right. This fat kid kept going back for more, again and again, long after the table had cleared out. The chopped brisket, while not bad, was not my favorite. I'm not positive, but I believe the chopped is served with sauce already mixed in. My preference is dry chopped and add to the sauce myself at will. The BBQ beans are a run of the mill variety that is typically found at a BBQ establishment. Once again, the beans were not bad, but not something I was going back for seconds on. After having the beans at Rudy's (one of my preferred choices), it's really hard to appreciate anything else the same. Though I like potato salad, I could give or take the offering from Bigham's.  Store bought options from Costco or United are better in my opinion.

As for the restaurant experience itself, the customer service was great and the people helping me were very friendly. There is a separate takeout counter which is nice and a drive-thru if you're so inclined. Bigham's also takes call ahead orders if you want to avoid a wait.

At the end of the day, you cannot go wrong with sliced brisket from here. However if I had to choose one place to experience BBQ in Lubbock, this would not be the place.

Taste was very good but Jalapeño Sausage and Brisket were barely warm.  Brisket was over cooked, Ribs were very good.  Positive thing was it was only $8.95  Coleslaw was the star of the meal but I could taste the sugar so only had to bites.  Shame it smelled great outside first and last visit sadly.  No reason for cold
Meats at 11:45 am for lunch.

Dry meat, in my opinion, is one of the worst things a restaurant can serve, so I was extremely disappointed when I ordered the brisket and ribs expecting something juicy and smoky and instead got something that was tough and bland.

The brisket was pretty tasteless and dry. It wasn't inedible and became better with the sauce, but when I eat barbeque, I want to taste the flavor of the meat, not just the sauce. The ribs had a better flavor and I could taste the smokiness; however, the outside of the ribs seemed like they dried out, so it was extremely tough. The inside of the ribs weren't that bad and were pretty fatty and tender but they weren't good enough to salvage the rest of the food. The sides were pretty standard. The fried okra, the macaroni salad, and the Texas toast were all average.

While this place isn't the worst barbeque restaurant, I don't see any reason to go here over some other barbeque place. Other places might be a little more expensive, but I think that it is completely worth it to pay a little more for a better product.

Place is freakin nasty BBQ, the brisket chewy and tasteless the chicken soooo over done and old and I got 1 piece in the 3 meat plate. Only decent thing was the ribs the sides taste and look like they're from a wholesale grocery store. Staff I'm sorry was complete idiots I would never wish this place on my worst enemy and god bless whoever sole has to eat it. 0/5

The hubby and I decided to try this place out since we were craving some BBQ. Never again. Someone needs to mention to the cooks that there is such a thing as "too much liquid smoke."  I had the pulled pork and ribs while my hubby had sliced brisket and ribs. First off l, I had never in my life witnessed someone slice a brisket as the young lady serving did. It was more like chunking then slicing. It was mediocre at best. Then the ribs had a good flavor but my husband's ribs came from a different rack than mine. The ones I received were undercooked. The pulled pork was dry and super liquid smoky. The sides on the other hand were not too bad. We tried the cobbler as well. I'd say if you want dessert, go to DQ. We were not impressed at all!! We will not be returning considering I barely made it back to the house before having to use the facilities because the meal upset my stomach so.
